OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

If your child is struggling to perform or engage in age appropriate activities such as tying shoes, getting dressed and/or using utensils for feeding, our OT team can help by addressing underlying skills that will improve independence in grooming and dressing tasks.

Our trained OTs use a sensoy integration approach to provide a safe environment for children to be exposed and experience various stimuli. Activities include resistive body work, swinging, therapeutic brushing, messy play, and much more.

Your child will learn positive behaviors and social skills by practicing how they manage frustration and anger. When appropiate we use protocols such as Zones of Regulation and Size of the Problem to assist in teaching self-regulation skills.

Gross motor skills are those which require full body movement involving the large muscles of the body to perform everyday functions. As OTs we address various gross motor skills to improve function such as motor planning, muscle tone and strength, motor coordination and more!

Fine motor skills are the movements and coordination of the small muscles of the body, such as the fingers and the hands. Our OTs will encourage the development of fine motor skills through various games and actives to improve handwriting skills and independence with dressing feeding and grooming.

Visual motor skills are an important part of child’s development and are needed to complete almost any activity. Our visual motor system help us catch a ball, write, and put on our socks. Get your child evaluated and let our expert OTs determine if your child’s visual motor skills are effecting their daily function.

Good core strength and stability will help your child to maintain an upright sitting and standing posture. Our OTs will teach your child core exercises and activities that will develop a stable base for fine motor and gross motor movements. We have various equipment to assist with core strength and stability such as a bosu ball, exercise mats, balance boards, swings and more!.

Play is a child’s main occupation and children develop functional skills through play. Our team of OTs are here to help you child develop appropriate play skills.

Handwriting is a complex process and requires many skills. Our team of OTs can evaluate the underlying components that support your child’s handwriting, such as muscle strength, endurance, coordination, visual skills and motor control. Our therapist have several ways to make handwriting fun, this way your child won’t even realize they are working hard!
